Top 15 drugstore makeup must-haves
This post topic was completely inspired by all of YOU! It has been one of my most requested Facebook Live videos so I finally did the live video tutorial for you last month! Soooo many of you loved the video tutorial so much that I have gotten a TON of messages asking for a list of all the products I used and where to find them. Well... since you asked, here's the list I compiled for you so you can restock your makeup bag and shop 'til you drop!
1. Primer: NYX First Base Primer Spray
Most primers come in a cream form but this one is great to quickly spray on and get on with the rest of your makeup routine- especially on the days when you need to hurry out the door! Make sure you're using some sort of primer (whether it be a spray or cream) so your foundation has something to stick to and your makeup goes on smoothly & evenly.
2. Foundation: Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation
This is one of my favorite drugstore foundations because it truly does what its name says- it makes me look like I don't have pores. It's a full coverage foundation that's great for that flawless "airbrushed" finish. It doesn't melt off and lasts all day! I love how matte it makes my skin look and it helps to keep the shine at bay. Maybelline Fit Me also makes also make a dewy version of this foundation which would be great for you if you have dry skin. I wear shade 120 Classic Ivory (I have olive undertones and combination skin).
3. Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
This is one of my favorite matte bronzers and BONUS- it smells like a tropical paradise! If you know me at all, you know I don't like bronzers with shimmer or sparkle- especially not for contouring. Since this one is matte, I use it for both bronzing and for light contouring. The color 'Bronzer 6676' is the shade I use and it would work well with many different skin tones (unless you're very fair or very dark complected- in which case I would choose a shade up or down from "Bronzer").
4. Highlighter: NYX Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator
Our good friend Contour isn't complete without it's best mate Highlight! Typically I use a powder highlighter but this one is the exception to my rule. It is a liquid highlighter that glides on the skin creating dimension to the face. I apply it with my fingers by dabbing it on and rubbing it into the spots that I want to make pop- think top of cheek bones, brow bone, bridge of nose, cupids bow, etc.
5. Blush: NYX Powder Blush in Amber
This blush compact is one of my faves mostly because of this color- although it does wear well too. I wear it in 'Amber' because it's not too peach/orange but also not too pink. It is my go-to color because it goes so well with any look and even plays nice with any skin tone!
6. Eye Primer: NYX Eyeshadow Base HD
Just like foundation primer, eyeshadow primer is a MUST! This one helps the shadow to stick to your lids all day without flaking.
7. Eyeshadow: Pacifica Eyeshadow Trio
I'll be honest, a good drugstore eyeshadow is hard to come by. I'm the type of person who is totally willing to pay more for better quality so I mostly use professional eyeshadow pallets. This little trio from Pacifica is a natural pallet that actually performs pretty well! The colors are soft and shimmery and would make for a great daytime look. This mini pallet would be a great one to travel with too when you don't want to tote along a big expensive prestige brand pallet.
8. Eyebrow Pencil: L'Oreal Paris Brow Stylist Definer
This brow pencil is one of my favorite pencils between both prestige and drugstore brands alike! I love how tiny the tip of the pencil because it makes it super easy to create small hair-like strokes for a natural looking brow. It comes in many colors but I wear it in 'Brunette'. Don't forget to comb those brows in place with the spoolie on the other end!
9. Eyeliner: Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner
I must say, this is hands down the best eyeliner I have ever used. I dare you to try to find something better! Gel eyeliner is my go-to liner whether I'm applying makeup on myself or my clients because it stays in place and goes on so smoothly. It's also a little easier to apply than liquid liner which is a huge plus for the amateur makeup junkie. I usually wear 'Blackest Black' but I have it in many colors because I love it so much!
10. Shimmer Eyeliner: e.l.f. Essential Shimmer Eyeliner
Since I don't like to line my lower lid with the gel liner, I like to use a pencil liner instead. This one has a very slight shimmer to it which makes the black POP even more!
11. Finishing Powder: NYX High Definition Finishing Powder
Finishing powder is a great way to blend everything together to create a seamless finish. Use a big fluffy brush to apply the finishing powder in circular motions to the face. I also like to "blot" with a loaded brush underneath my eyes and around any other areas that I want to really set into place.
12. Setting Spray: NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray
I ALWAYS follow up finishing powder with a setting spray. This one is the best drugstore setting spray that I've found. (You all know by now that my favorite setting spray of all time is All Nighter by Urban Decay.) But this is actually the one I wore for my wedding! I like that it keeps my face matte throughout the day and prevents my makeup from melting off! Even when I ugly cried during our ceremony my makeup still didn't move- I was in shock!
13. Eyelash Curler: Revlon Extra Curl Eyelash Curler
Before we can do mascara, we can't forget to curl those lashes! (Unless of course you're one of the lucky ones who already has gorgeous curly lashes... *jealous*) This is the exact eyelash curler that I use. I've had it forever and it gives a perfect lifted curl!
14. Mascara: L'Oreal Lash Paradise
Okay here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for...
This is the one item that sparked THE MOST interest of all! I got so many questions and messages about what mascara I used in the video so I know a lot of you already went out and bought this one! This is one of my favorite mascaras of.all.time. You need to get your hands on this, trust me you will not be disappointed! It doesn't matter if you need volume, length or both, this bad gal has got you. I know you already clicked the link and it's in your Amazon cart ;)
15. Lipstick: Revlon Color Stay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick
This lip color is my secret weapon. I use it on ALL my brides because it literally lasts 24 hours. It actually can't be removed with just soap and water, you'll need a makeup remover to remove it but that's why I love it! You can eat, sleep, kiss, drink, smile and it will not budge. It's perfect for events or even a long day at work when you don't have time for a touch up! In the video I show you the color 'Premium Pink' but I have every single color they make in my professional kit and all my clients love them too!
If you missed the live video but you'd still like to see the full tutorial where I show you how to use all of the products listed above, head over to my Facebook page and catch it on the replay! Have any drugstore products that you love? Leave me a comment below so I can try them out!
